Basic Study Skills for Credit

Welcome to Study Skills for Credit! You have been hand selected for this course as a means to improve your academic success in high school. During this semester I hope you will not only be successful in your current classes, but also gain life skills that will help you be successful in school and other pursuits in the future.

Study Skills for Credit differs from a traditional study hall class because in addition to having time to complete assignments and study for other classes, students will also engage in activities specifically focused on helping them develop good habits, make good decisions for themselves, and ultimately take responsibility for the outcome of their own lives. Learning skills for success in school is an ongoing process and while we start good habits this semester, it will be up to you to continue these habits in the future.

Required Materials:

Pen/Pencil/Paper

1.(CLASS AVERAGES) Every Monday student’s grades will be reviewed by the teacher, all percentages will be written down on the STUDY SKILLS SHEET. They will be added together and divided by the number of classes that a student has each day. These percentages will be reviewed with the Study Skills teacher.

2. (STUDENT PORTAL GRADE CHECK) Every Thursday students will be
responsible for checking their grades in the SIS Gradebook and writing
their percentages down for each class on their STUDY SKILLS SHEET.
This will also be reviewed with the Study Skills teacher.

General Class Policies and Procedures:

All school policies apply in Basic Study Skills class.
Food will be permitted as long as they do not distract from the learning environment. Drinks are not allowed around any of the computers and drink containers should have a lid.
Please come to Study Skills class prepared to work for the full class period. Use this time to complete homework, classwork, study for tests and quizzes, etc. If you have no homework and no tests/quizzes to study for, then you may read silently for the entire class period, or use the computer for school appropriate activities.
Students not coming to Study Skills prepared and needing to go back to their lockers will receive a tardy for the class period. Everyone forgets something at times, so exceptions will be given if the student has not made a habit of forgetting materials.
If a student has a scheduled meeting with a teacher during Study Skills class, the student must bring a note signed by the teacher in order to be excused from Study Skills.
Student Chromebook use will follow all computer acceptable use rules.

Basic Classroom Expectations:

Be on time (sitting in desk) when tardy bell rings.
Be prepared (with supplies such as pen, paper, textbooks, planner, and assignments).

Filling-out the STUDY SKILLS SHEET is not an option.
